    Typical revenue by size

A well-established salon with 2-3 treatment rooms generally generates between 120.000 and 300.000 € a year; a realistic net margin, before unexpected costs, is around 10% to 20%.

These are indicative figures, not promises: location, equipment and above all treatment room occupancy have a major impact on the numbers.

    Where the money goes

The three largest expenses are staff (35-45%), rent and utilities (10-15%) and products/consumables (8-12%); effective marketing accounts for between 5% and 10%.

    • Staff: 35-45% of revenue — the decisive expense.
    • Rent and utilities: 10-15%.
    • Products and consumables: 8-12%.
    • Equipment repayments: highly variable, often 5-15%.
    • Marketing: 5-10% in growing salons.

The three levers that improve margins

Margins improve through three levers: increasing treatment room occupancy, selling treatment programmes rather than individual sessions and reducing no-shows.

An empty treatment room costs as much as a full one. That is why the salons with the best margins are not those with the highest prices, but those with fully booked schedules: prepaid treatment programmes, fast responses to enquiries and automated reminders to prevent no-shows.
